June 22, 2012?Bali Hotels Association (BHA) is proud to announce the results of one of its key 2011 environmental initiatives. ?Say No to Disposable Plastics? saw 30 BHA member hotels participate, with an average reduction of this type of plastic from May?November of 23%, exceeding the set goal of 20%.

Denpasar, Bali, June 7?The Bali Spa & Wellness Association (BSWA) held its annual workshops on April 30 at the InterContinental Bali Resort. BSWA is one of many organizations actively supported by Bali Hotels Association (BHA), the island?s 100-member-strong group of star-rated hotels and resorts.

Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia and Quiksilver joined forces back in 2008 in a concerted effort to tackle the disturbing issue of trash on Bali?s beaches, ever-increasing water pollution, and saving the endangered sea turtles. Since then they have expended in excess of $200,000 USD each year funding programs in the attempt to clean up the beaches and water supplies, as well as setting up the Kuta Beach Sea Turtle Conservation. In addition to these efforts, coming up on July 6th-8th this year, Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia and Quilsilver are hosting their 2nd annual ?Big Bali Eco Weekend? on Kuta Beach. According to Bruce Waterfield, Business Services Director of Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia, ?We have been running ?Bali Beach Clean Up? for nearly five years now, but this year we give opportunity to industry and individuals who want to help us raise enough money to purchase beach clean-up equipment that will be operated by local government to keep Bali beaches clean.?

In the afternoon of Wednesday April 11, 2012 a 8.5 Richter scale earthquake occurred southwest of Simeuleu district in the Indonesian province of Aceh ? over 2500 km to the Northwest of Bali. The depth of the earthquake was shallow, estimates range from 10 km to 30 km. The earthquake triggered widespread tsunami warnings for the Western Sumatran Coast as well as the wider region. Fortunately no damaging waves have been generated. The earthquake was followed by several severe aftershocks.
