About Penjors:
The Balinese Penjor embodies notions of protection and prosperity. Crafted from a tall bamboo pole gracefully curved at its peak, reminiscent of a majestic mountain, the Penjor represents profound symbolism. Its creation is a testament to the artisan's adeptness and patience. The meticulous process commences with the selection of a robust bamboo as the foundational pole. This bamboo is then meticulously shaped into an elegant arc, exhibiting artistic finesse. Adorned with embellishments like janur (young coconut leaves), coconuts, bananas, sugarcane, assorted snacks, and fabrics, the Penjor encapsulates the abundance of vegetation and daily essentials bestowed by Hyang Widhi Wasa (God).
The installation of the Penjor marks a momentous and unifying occasion for the Balinese community. During the Galungan and Kuningan festivities, households and businesses alike partake in erecting Penjors in front of their premises. This act holds a dual purpose: a reverential homage to the divine presence and an expression of gratitude. The Penjor stands as an emblem, paying tribute to both the divine forces and ancestral heritage.
