The Samaya Seminyak Bali Celebrates World Turtle Day - May 24, 2017
Bali, May 24th 2017
In the world, there are seven sea turtle species, six of them live in Indonesia. They are Green turtle (Chelonia mydas), hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricate), olive ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea), leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), flatback sea turtle (Natator depressus), and loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). Nowadays, some species of turtles and tortoises are suffering and almost on the edge of extinction due to environmental hazards and issues with hunting and harvesting of their eggs.
World Turtle Day was created by the American Tortoise Rescue (ATR) in 2000 and it is celebrated across the world every May 23rd. it has purpose to bring attention to, and increase knowledge of and respect for turtles and tortoises and encourage human action to help them survive and thrive since
Turtle Day is celebrated worldwide in a variety of ways. The Samaya Seminyak was very excited in taking a part of this celebration by providing a little turtle souvenir for all of our in house guests. These souvenirs hopefully can be useful in promoting the campaign of turtles protection.
