BHA's Statement on The Incident in Jakarta - Jan 15, 2016
With heartfelt regrets and grief BHA extends its condolences to the victims, families and friends of the tragic events that took place yesterday in Jakarta. We also thank and commend the Indonesian security and rescue services that put their life on the line in order to safe others. Our thoughts are with all of those who were affected by these cowardly and heinous acts.
As the news broke BHA took immediate action informing its members and advising them to adjust their security level to anticipate any extended threats. BHA activated its security and safety response network comprising of local authorities, security services as well as intelligence, embassies and other relevant private and public sector partners.
BHA members have briefed their staff to be vigilant but calm and to focus on the security and safety of their guests without compromise whilst ensuring the great service and holiday experience that Bali is famous for.
BHA has been running an internationally awarded integrated hotel security and safety program for many years. BHA member hotels have access to a wide range of security and safety related resources. The association is organizing regular training workshops with its national and international partners and works on tourism security and safety concepts together with the Indonesian government, the United Nations and ASEAN.
We will not be intimidated by the recent events in Jakarta. We take them as an opportunity to improve and to remind ourselves and our guests that life is wonderful and should be cherished and enjoyed. So let’s not give in to terror, hate and fear, let’s keep travelling and enjoy the island of Bali with all it has to offer.
